MCU Sunset

One of the things we like to do when at Coney Island is attend the Cyclones games, a minor league baseball team, at MCU Park. The are a farm team for the Mets, so even better!

The tickets are reasonably priced, usually the weather is nice, and some nights, they have fireworks after the game.

During the game on July 3rd, there were enough clouds in the sky to create a stunning sunset. Though the sun was setting behind my left shoulder from this shot, it bathed the sky in a beautiful glow.

It is Thursday, so time for a Throwback Thursday photo! I took this photograph last November while at work. The sun was setting over New Jersey, painting the sky different reds, ambers, oranges, and purples. The camera still cannot capture the beauty I saw in person, but this shot comes close.

Wide Angle Brooklyn Botanic Gardens

Once again, my life became busy, and I neglected this blog. But this corner of Cyberspace wasn't the only thing I have ignored. My Instagram isn't as active as it once was, Facebook has also been ignored.

Even though I'm not active online, I have been enjoying life in my freetime. There have been zoo visits, Botanic Gardens, seeing friends old and new. But I haven't been taking my camera as many places as I once did. I also haven't been editing, or even culling, the photos I do take; I have some from March that I need to go through.

This past Sunday, we took a trip to the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens to enjoy the last of the cherry blossoms. We usually like to go several times in the spring, but this year we didn't make it until Mother's Day. I only took one wide angle shot, which is posted at the beginning.

Watery Wide Angle Wednesday

I have been photographing a lot of our company events, but have not done much in the way of photographing for my personal work since the new year. The first big snow storm of the year yielded a couple of action shots of my three year old playing in the snow, and I tried to get a couple of photos from one time when I was prepping dinner (the lighting from the kitchen window was too good to pass up).

This past weekend I found myself in Greenpoint, Brooklyn photographing a 40th birthday party. When I scouted out my trip there on the map, I noticed a public park just a block away called WNYC Transmitter Park. As the name says, there used to be a transmitter for WNYC located there, but now it is a park with a pier that takes you out over the East River. I decided that I needed to make time before I left the area and grab some shots for my personal portfolio.

After I was done getting the room shots for the event, I left and made my way to the pier. It was a cold night, though in the high twenties as opposed to the teens as it has been. The wind whipping off of the icy East River did not feel good though, so I stayed out there for maybe 20mins before I decided to pack it up.

Post Processing was done by tweaking the RAW files in Adobe Lightroom. I tweaked the white balance towards the cool side because that is the mood I felt these pictures convey to me, but it may be I am still frozen. I usually crop to the original aspect ratio or 16x9, but this time, I decided to do 2x1 aspect ration. These cityscapes just felt very wide to me and 16x9 wasn't wide enough.

Liberty Sunset

Lady Liberty
Canon 60D, EF40mm f/2.8, f/5, 1/60sec, 800ISO, 40mm

I'm an infrequent blogger. Life has a funny way of getting in the way. This month of September has been a busy one for me. Work has had me in the Hamptons, Westchester, back to the Hamptons, and Montauk. When not working crazy hours during the week and weekend, I've been trying to spend time with my family. With all that has been going on, I haven't been shooting for myself. I still have been shooting events for my company, but my camera hasn't been used for personal projects. And I have been neglecting this blog.

My wife and 3 year old took a trip to the zoo a couple of weeks ago, and I left my camera at home. We visit the zoo multiple times a year, and almost every other time, my dSLR is with me. It was an interesting experience. I do have thousands of photographs from the zoo, so I don't think I missed out on too much. Except for the fact that the Children's Zoo petting area had just reopened.

My parents had visited us for a few weeks, took a road trip around New England, and then came back for a little bit longer. It was great to see them, as we live on opposite sides of the continent. We don't see them enough. I didn't get to spend as much time as I wanted with them because work kept coming up. Maybe someday that will change.

I am trying to help out one of my wife's students, trying to schedule a time to do some headshots for her, as she is now pursuing dance professionally. After my experience with my submission for the Business of Bayside exhibit, I have decided to push myself when the opportunity arises. Now if only our schedules would work out.

So since my recent shots are lacking, I have decided to post a couple photographs of a sunset behind the Statue of Liberty. Readers of this blog may notice the vantage point is similar to previous posts. We've had some pretty epic sunsets in New York City, and the Hamptons recently. Unfortunately, I will just have to rely on my memory of them. They were even more incredible than the images in this post.

As cliche as it is, I love photographing sunsets.

Wide Angle Wednesday

Summertime has always meant visiting Coney Island ever since I moved to New York City. This year has been no exception. But this last trip, decided to take the wide angle lens with me.

Unfortunately, the New York Aquarium was hit hard by super storm Sandy in the fall of 2012. They are still rebuilding, so it is a very quick trip, but still worth the admission as we are members!

These restrooms popped up after Sandy as well.

A trip to Coney Island deserves a stroll down the boardwalk. Usually a trip to Nathan's as well, but at least some sort of unhealthy food option. My sister, one summer when she visited, ordered a corn on the cob from Nathan's Famous, and was disappointed. I had to point out that they are famous for their hot dogs, not their corn!

We used to frequent the Freak Show there, but haven't in a couple years, perhaps next year. I'm sure our daughter will enjoy it when she is 3 going on 4.
